Made from a Google Earth image of the most contiguous portion of the BP oil spill as seen from the air on July 13, 2010. The drill hole represents the location of Deepwater Horizon. Sterling silver.

This one is pretty over the top, I prefer the subtlety of the other rings in this series. I was in the studio until 5am and had to see the battery idea through to the end, just to see if I could do it. Nickel silver, copper, duracell battery - held together with duct tape and play doh.

I am finally on track and caught up with rings!

This is the image I remember best from the Abu Ghraib photos. Out of context it might be called Boy with Land Tortoise. Copper.


Playing around with some ideas for display. I'd prefer that the rings be viewed first without the photos, so this isn't going to work. I do like the minimal stand.

I asked a friend what he thought I could use to simulate oil for this ring and he suggested two-part epoxy. I tinted the epoxy with black enamel and I'm fairly pleased with how it came out. The paint thinned it out a bit, but it does have an oily iridescence.

These are all vintage pieces, the Poseidon charm and scrimshaw buckle seemed appropriate additions to the ring.

Today is the 21st anniversary of the devastating Exxon Valdez oil spill off the coast of Alaska. Hundreds of thousands of animals were killed, the best estimates are: 250,000 seabirds, 2,800 sea otters, 300 harbor seals, 250 bald eagles, up to 22 killer whales, and billions of salmon and herring eggs. And we still haven't learned our lessons about oil.

Crown of Thorns Cilice Ring. For centuries some members of the Roman Catholic church have practiced corporal mortification through the use of a cilice belt, or metal spiked chain, as a constant reminder of Christ's sacrifice to the world. The belt is typically worn around the thigh.

This ring is made from sterling silver and sharpened copper nails and works by compression. It's pretty uncomfortable, yet I can't seem to stop trying it on.

A monumental earthquake shook Port-au-Prince yesterday, thousands have died and the presidential palace has toppled in one of the poorest countries in the world. I took some time to reflect on the tragedy and suffering today. I am so grateful that all of my beloved friends and family are healthy and well.

Bad Girl Button Ring. This took most of my day! When the copper button is depressed a sharp steel spike pokes the wearer in the finger. It's basically a ball point pen in design, I'm pretty happy with the engineering.

This piece marks the beginning of my exploration of temptation and compulsion in our dangerous world. I soldered copper wires to the inside of the bezel cup and slid them inside of the plug adapter before I epoxied it in, making this a pretty dangerous ring.
