1/52 quartz
My first Ring a Week! It was heaven to have so much time to work on this, I spent seven hours on the fabrication alone - what an indulgent treat after making a ring every day for a year. 2011 is my Year of the Stone, and I plan to incorporate more gems into my designs. I intend to use future RAW rings to work through more advanced stone setting techniques.
I also plan to expand on ideas from Ring a Day, this design has been percolating in my head since I first tried to make a hollow form ring with this stone for RAD. The large amount of metal proved too much for my puny butane torches so I had to scrap the idea.
This year my focus will be on my business and working with collections production-style, rather than one of a kind. I'm counting on RAW to keep me sane and striving for well-conceived and carefully executed work. This ring is the most exacting and complex piece I've made and it's a start, but I want to do so much more. I want to go to eleven, in Spinal Tap terms.
