To date the Rings for Haiti ebay auctions have raised $1,403! Many thanks to all of the talented artists who donated their beautiful rings, and the fabulous people who bid on them.

Kelly Malec-Kosak is Chair of the Dimensional Studies program at Columbus College of Art and Design in Ohio. Ms. Malec-Kosak's students have been participating in the Ring a Day project, and have offered some of their rings in support of Haiti relief.

Rings for Haiti

We now have 26 handmade rings for the eBay auction to benefit Haiti, which should start in a couple of weeks. I'm so impressed by the generosity demonstrated by this diverse group of metalsmiths. I have done very little promotion, simply mentioning it on Facebook, the EtsyMetal member forum, and in some Flickr photo comments. I haven't solicited from anyone individually, all have offered their beautiful rings voluntarily and I'm very grateful.

Sara Westermark has donated her stunning chinese turquoise and sterling silver ring, the oxidized ring face is embossed with a leaf texture and the turquoise shows beautiful matrix mottling. This ring has sold.

Israeli artist Inbar Bareket has given a beautifully textured, thick sterling silver band ring, Landscape, the 13th of her Ring a Day series. This ring has sold.

Another wonderful band ring comes from Lorena Angulo. This ring is made from fine silver clay, it is heavily textured and has a great liver of sulphur patina. This ring has sold.

Mary Lu Wason says of her lovely sterling silver ring, "I created this on January 13, 2010, while listening to the radio reports of the disaster in Haiti. This began as a square wire. I filed and filed until I saw the silver tears appear." This ring has sold.

Lora Hart has created a marvelous piece from fine silver clay and a lab grown ruby with wonderful texture fleur de lis accents. This is ring #15 in Lora's Ring a Day series. The auction for this ring has not yet been scheduled.

Ring Auction for Haiti

Great news! My Ring for Haiti will be auctioned in a fundraiser on eBay along with 20 other handmade rings. It has only been three days since the earthquake, I suspect we will have more contributions this week. Some are rings from the Ring a Day project, and others are not. The date of the auction is yet to be determined.

Laurie Brown has generously offered her chunky, whimsical Peanut Ring of cast sterling silver.

Nicola Callow has donated her beautiful Treasure Creativity X, made from sterling silver and copper. This ring has sold.

Kathryn Riechert made this very modern design from a silver plated fork, a poignant piece made to benefit a country where so many are starving. The ring can be worn a myriad of ways. This ring has sold.

Sophie Wiggins offers one of her Sundiving rings made with beautiful fiery dichroic glass and sterling silver. This ring has not yet been scheduled.

And my Ring for Haiti, made from sterling and nickel silver, this ring has not yet been scheduled.

Stay tuned!

13/365 ring for Haiti

A monumental earthquake shook Port-au-Prince yesterday, thousands have died and the presidential palace has toppled in one of the poorest countries in the world. I took some time to reflect on the tragedy and suffering today. I am so grateful that all of my beloved friends and family are healthy and well.
